Clinicians should suspect disease activity elsewhere in patients with ocular manifestation. Therefore patients presenting with ocular lupus should be investigated for systemic involvement to identify treatable and preventable complications of the disease (1).

  • keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) - most common ocular lesion of SLE which is reported in around 25% of the patients.
  • retinal involvement - classic feature of lupus retinopathy is the cotton-wool spot
  • other ocular features may include:
    • conjunctivitis
    • interstitial keratitis
    • episcleritis
    • diffuse or nodular scleritis
