There is no evidence that HRT increases the risk of cervical cancer. A case-control study based in the Milan area of northern Italy compared 645 women with invasive cerivical cancer with a comparison group of 749 women roughly age-matched who were admitted to the same hospitals. The group with cervical cancer were more likely to be of higher parity, have had more sexual partners and to have had fewer cervical smears.

The study revealed HRT was less prevalent in the cases than in the control group. A lower odds ratio for cervical cancer was seen with earlier commencement of HRT and with longer use of HRT.
