A haematometros is the accumulation of blood in the uterus.
This condition may be caused by Mullerian anomalies.
In the young this conditon may be due to an imperforate hymen.
In older women this condition may be secondary to carcinoma or secondary to cervical stenosis (e.g. following cone biopsy).
A haematometros be the result of childbirth, either by normal vaginal delivery or following assisted deliveries such as by forceps.
