These patients can usually be treated at home, although the response to treatment must be assessed before the patient is left.

Management consists of:

  • treatment with nebulised beta agonist
  • monitoring response to treatment
  • further treatment depending on improvement in peak flow
  • follow up
  • consider indications for lower threshold for hospital admission
