The primary use of amiodarone is for prevention and treatment of the tachycardia of Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome.

Because of its toxic side-effects amiodarone should be held in reserve until alternative agents have been tried; amiodarone may then be indicated for:

  • atrial fibrillation
  • ventricular tachycardia
  • ventricular fibrillation
