There are two main types of pseudohypoparathyroidism:

  • type I:
    • adenylate cyclase is not activated by PTH
    • urinary cAMP levels do not rise when PTH is administered

  • type II:
    • cells fail to respond to the intracellular cAMP signal
    • urinary cAMP levels rise when PTH is administered
