Transcobalamin is a plasma protein involved in the transport of vitamin B12 within plasma. There are at least 3 subtypes:

  • type I: involved with short-term storage
  • type II: involved with transfer of vitamin B12 to dividing cells
  • type III: conveys vitamin B12 to the liver for excretion or storage
