Scarring is inevitable in patients with severe burns. When large areas of skin are involved skin grafts may fail or there may be infection resulting in unsightly hypertrophic scarring.
Scar contraction may cause stiffness and immobility of joints. Treatment consists of physiotherapy, splinting and surgical intervention.
