Spasticity is a state of increased muscle tone with increased tendon reflexes. There is resistance to passive movement.
This state may be present in upper motor neurone lesions.
Occasionally, there may evidence of an upper motor neurone and cerebellar signs combined - spastic and ataxic paraparesis. The causes of this are described in the appropriate menu option.
