Digoxin may interact with suxamethonium to cause cardiac arrhythmias. Both may raise the plasma potassium level. A low potassium concentration may enhance the tendency for certain agents, e.g. halothane, to interact with digoxin in stimulating the vagus nerve. Hence, it is important to check the plasma electrolytes and digoxin level peroperatively having stopped the dose of digoxin immediately prior to general anaesthesia.
