Changes in left ventricular power output

Authoring team

The approximate power output of the left ventricle is given by: power = cardiac output x pressure drop across the systemic circulation.

Typically the power output is well preserved at rest even in advanced disease, however the reserve for meeting exercise is progressively lost.

Measurement of left ventricular power output has not proven to be clinically useful.
