Is useful in finding supportive evidence of chronic heart failure and to exclude other causes of shortness of breath (1).

The characteristic findings in the chest radiograph in a patient with heart failure include:

  • large heart
  • upper lobe venous dilatation
  • pleural effusion
  • fluid in the fissures
  • peribronchial cuffing
  • interstitial and alveolar shadowing
