The use of steroids may also be useful in the treatment of the following complications of tuberculosis:

  • tuberculosis meningitis, when there is reduced conscious level
  • intracerebral tuberculomata
  • pleural and pericardial effusions
  • ureteric obstruction
  • for severe drug reactions
  • in patients with Addison's disease
  • in critically ill patients
