Authoring team

  • when considering referral then consider the degree of urgency of the referral to the haematologist with respect to the platelet count:
    • non-urgent referral - platelet counts of 100-150x109/l in a well patient
    • fairly urgent referral - 50-100x109/
    • urgent referral - if platelet count < 50x109/l, refer urgently

Notes:

  • consider the clinical condition of the patient when considering referral - any degree of thrombocytopenia in an ill patient merits referral
