Interpretation of microscopy results

  • if bacteriuria positive and pyuria positive
    • infant or child should be regarded as having UTI
  • if bacteriuria positive and pyuria negative
    • infant or child should be regarded as having UTI
  • if bacteriuria negative and pyuria positive
    • antibiotic treatment should be started if clinically UTI
  • if bacteriuria negative and pyuria negative
    • infant or child should be regarded as not having UTI
