  • use of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) has been associated with a wide range of psychiatric effects
    • include aggression, dysthymia, psychosis, and criminal behavior
    • in addition to aggression and mania, AAS use is also associated with delusions of grandeur, euphoria, criminal behavior, and acute confusional states
    • research has shown that subjects using AAS also exhibit dependency on other substances
