Brandt Daroff exercises

These exercises are a method of treating Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). They succeed in 95% of cases but are more arduous than the Epley manoeuvre (1).

The Brandt-Daroff exercises is a canalith repositioning technique that can be performed by the patient at home (2).

The Brandt - Daroff exercises should be performed for two or three weeks and a suggested schedule is as follows:

Time exercise duration:

  • morning
    • 5 repetitions 10 minutes
  • noon
    • 5 repetitions 10 minutes
  • evening
    • 5 repetitions 10 minutes


Start sitting upright on the edge of the bed.

Turn your head 45 degrees to the left, or as far as is comfortable.

Lie down on your right side.

Remain in this position for 30 seconds or until any dizziness has subsided.

Sit up and turn head back to centre.

Turn your head 45 degrees to the right, or as far as is comfortable.

Lie down on your left side.

Remain in this position for 30 seconds or until any dizziness has subsided.

Sit up and turn head back to centre.
