Fracture (tibia)

Last reviewed dd mmm yyyy. Last edited dd mmm yyyy

Authoring team

A fracture of the tibia alone is unusual except in children. The danger in this type of fracture is that the intact fibula will act to hold the fragments apart and so increase the likelihood of non-union. If this situation occurs then the fibula may need to be divided.
