Overflow proteinuria is associated with disorders which cause an excess of low molecular mass proteins in the plasma:

  • amylase in acute pancreatitis
  • Bence-Jones protein in multiple myeloma
  • Waldenstrom's macroglobulinaemia
  • light chain disease
  • haemoglobin in intravascular haemolysis
  • myoglobin following crush injury
  • lysozyme in myelomonocytic leukaemia / M4 acute myeloid leukaemia
