Cordocentesis

Cordocentesis is used in some centres to analyse the constituents of the foetal circulation. In cases of foetal anaemia one may perform intrauterine blood transfusion.

Ultrasound guidance for the technique is possible after 15 weeks of gestation.

The risk to the foetus is 1-2%.
