Cones and rods

Rods and cones are the photoreceptors in the retina.

Rods are sensitive to different intensities of light.

Cones are sensitive to different wavelengths of light and enable the seeing of things in colour. For normal colour vison cone photopigments sensitive to blue, green and red light are required.
