Basal acid secretion by the stomach is low, usually less than 5 mmol/h. In the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome the basal acid secretion may exceed 100 mmol/h.
Stimulated acid secretion is normally:
- < 45 mmol/h in males
- < 35 mmol/h in females
The pH of the stimulated juice in patients with achlorhydria remains alkaline.
