Non-ulcer dyspepsia is defined as:

  • recurrent upper abdominal pain
  • symptoms for at least one month
  • symptoms for more than 25% of the time
  • the absence of a positive diagnosis following:
    • biochemistry
    • endoscopic imaging
    • ultrasound imaging

There is significant overlap between non-ulcer dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome.
