Epididymitis (chronic)

Chronic epididymitis may be due to:

  • tuberculosis:
    • a primary lesion of the epididymis
    • secondary to infection elsewhere in the genitourinary tract
  • following repeated attacks of acute epididymitis

Patient's present with a hard, irregular swelling involving the epididymis. The testis may become secondarily involved.

In tuberculosis, cold abscesses may develop and rupture through the scrotum producing cutaneous fistulae.
