Optic chiasm

The optic chiasm is the point at which fibres in the optic tract partially decussate.

They do this as follows:

  • fibres from the temporal retina - thus the nasal visual field - do not cross.
  • fibres from the nasal retina - thus the temporal visual field - cross to the contralateral side.
