Diabetic mononeuropathy can affect peripheral or cranial nerves.
The cranial nerves most commonly affected are the IIIrd and the VIth.
The pathology of the disease is not fully understood but is most likely due to occlusion of the vasa nevorum.
The palsy usually resolves with time.
