Hot potato speech

A spastic dysarthria is caused by a paucity of movement of the muscles of speech production. It is the result of a bilateral upper motor neurone lesion.

The tongue simply doesn't move enough, and it is for this reason that speech is described as being 'hot potato' in quality.
