Peripheral neuropathy (mainly axonal defect)

Last reviewed dd mmm yyyy. Last edited dd mmm yyyy

Authoring team

Axonal degeneration generally has no effect on nerve conduction until a late stage in the disease process. The electromyogram of these conditions shows fibrillation potentials and loss of motor units. Polyphasic action potentials (with increased amplitude and duration) may be seen in cases of re-innervation.
