In general, the postoperative course is 6-8 days, by which time the patient is mobile. By 6 weeks, most patients are able to undertake moderate exercise.

Survival data:

  • 1-year survival - 95%
  • 5-year survival - 88%
  • at 10 years post-surgery:
    • 1/3 of patients remain asymptomatic
    • 1/3 have mild angina
    • patency of saphenous vein grafts is 50%
    • patency of left internal mammary grafts is 90%
    • low-dose aspirin improves graft patency
