  • women who are pregnant or who may become so
  • patients with known hypersensitivity to quinine
  • patients who have developed thrombocytopaenic purpura following quinine ingestion
  • patients with a history of haemolytic anaemia
  • patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehyrogenase deficiency or optic neuritis
