Obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract results in raised left ventricular pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy.

The increased work and decreased perfusion of the left ventricle results in:

  • myocardial ischaemia
  • angina
  • arrhythmias
  • left heart failure

The symptoms and signs of aortic stenosis are markedly worse during exercise.
