There are five varieties of histiocytoma, two are common:

  • storiform-pleomorphic
  • myxoid

The three less common variants are inflammatory, giant cell, and angiomatoid.

In keeping with the histiocytic origin of the tumour, immunohistochemical stains are positive for:

  • lysozyme
  • alpha-1-antitrypsin
  • alpha-1-antichymotrypsin
  • factor XIIIa
