Investigations in recurrent apthous ulceration

These should include:

  • full blood count
  • iron studies, red cell folate
  • serum B12 and endomysial antibodies (recurrent apthous ulceration may, rarely, be the only clinical manifestation of coeliac disease)

If oral ulceration persists for more than three weeks then a biopsy should be undertaken to exclude carcinoma.
