The only symptom is deformity, the severity of which depends largely on the site of the scoliosis. The higher it is up the spine, the more likely it is to be noticed early.
The deformity is always made worse when the patient flexes the spine.
The shoulder is raised on the side of the convexity. The hip points out on the side of the concavity.
If there is thoracic scoliosis then the breasts are asymmetrical and there is protrusion of the rib angles.
