Periorbital oedema

Periorbital oedema gives the face a bloated appearance. The eyes may become partially closed by the swollen eyelids.

In severe cases the whole face may become oedematous.

Periorbital oedema is associated with the following conditions:

  • nephrotic syndrome
  • allergic reactions, for example to pollen, dust or insect bites
  • angioneurotic oedema
  • periorbital cellulitis
