  • race:
    • more common in caucasians
    • rarer in African-Americans
  • rarer than squamous cell carcinoma but difficult to quantify accurately as reporting bias towards the latter
  • age of onset typically greater than 60 years
  • occurs more often in males than females (ratio 2-3:1)
