  • lack of apoproteins, e.g. abetalipoproteinaemia - lipid accumulates within the enterocytes resulting in malabsorption
  • lymphatic obstruction:
    • intestinal lymphoma
    • Whipple's disease
    • lymphangiectasia - very rare
