Occupational therapy:- The occupational therapist has a valuable role in the treatment of psychiatric patients. The therapist can offer tasks such as craft and art work which can calm an anxious patient or revive the interest of a retarded depressive. The OT can help to assess the limits of a patients abilities and help to provide him with a suitable environment. The OT can help to plan a patients daily activities and organise group therapy sessions for patients. The OT provides a valuable insight into the patients daily functioning and provides tasks and holds forums that help the patients to help themselves. Industrial Therapy attempts to provide the patient with a working day, a regular wage and the prospects of working outside the hospital. It allows the patient to have an environment where he can learn, practise and gain confidence in new skills.
