Procyclidine and benztropine, given parenterally, are effective emergency treatment for acute drug-induced dystonic reactions with phenothiazines and related drugs e.g. procyclidine 5mg intravenously or intramuscularly.

Tardive dyskinesia is not improved by the use of anti-muscarinic drugs.
