Example protocol:

Prophylaxis for patients with a neutrophil count below 0.5.

Use only during periods of neutropaenia.

  • ciprofloxacin 500 mg bd
  • colistin 1.5 mu bd

Topical mouthcare

  • corsodyl mouthwash qds
  • amphotericin lozenges qds

Acyclovir in specific situations only:

  • allogenic bone marrow transplant (BMT) patients at high risk for CMV - 400 mg qds
  • other BMT patients - 200 mg qds
  • non-BMT patients with a history of HSV or VZV infection during neutropaenia
  • lymphoid malignancy - 200 mg qds
