There are no standard investigations for the patient with a suspected keloid scar. It is a clinical diagnosis based on the history and examination features. Rarely, a locally agressive tumour such as dermatofibrosarcoma protruberans may present with similar findings on examination. Such patients typically have no history of trauma. In this situation, a dermatology opinion is suggested and formal histological biopsy may be necessary for diagnosis.
