The trial was a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial of pravastatin in patients with a history of unstable angina or myocardial infarction.

The patients had initial cholesterol levels of 4.0 - 7.0 mmol/litre.

9014 patients were recruited between the ages of 31 and 75.

The mean follow-up period was 6.1 years.
