Hypothenar space (infection)

Hypothenar space infection is uncommon and generally attributable to penetrating injury. Infection here is less urgent because there are no long finger flexor tendons within the compartment.

Swelling, erythema and pain at the site are common. Treatment is incision and drainage under antibiotic cover.
