Pain:

  • joint pain is diffuse, whilst pain well localised over the medial or lateral condyles may be due to tendinitis

Stiffness:

  • this may be severe at the elbow and occur in flexion, extension, supination and pronation. The functional implications may be serious, preventing reaching to the mouth or perineum making feeding and personal hygiene difficult.

Swelling:

  • injury or inflammation, bursitis?

Instability may occur as a result of rheumatoid degeneration of the joint. Numbness and paraesthesia may also occur in the ulnar nerve distribution.
