Sulphur is an essential mineral constituent of many proteins, such as insulin, and some vitamins, including thiamine and biotin. It is excreted in the urine.
Sources of sulphur include beef, liver, lamb, fish, poultry, eggs, cheese and beans. Within these it is largely contained within the sulphur-based amino acids, cysteine and methionine.
Sulphur is a key agent in drugs used to treat:
- fungal infections
- parasitic infections
