The oblique vein of the left atrium is a remnant of the left common cardinal vein of fetal development. It is a relatively small vein which passes down the left posterolateral surface of the left atrium towards the right - an oblique course.

It drains venous blood from the myocardium of the left atrium and drains into the coronary sinus.
