Primidone is an anticonvulsant drug that may be used against tonic-clonic and partial seizures but not petit mal. A large proportion of the drug is metabolised to phenobarbitone. However the unaltered primidone may also have anticonvulsant action. It is inadvisable to combine administration of this drug with phenobarbitone because toxicity is frequent.

The summary of product characteristics should be consulted before prescribing this drug.
