Simple pulmonary function tests

The basic pulmonary function tests may be performed with a peak expiratory flow meter and a spirometer.

The following values may be measured:

  • peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR)
  • vital capacity (VC)
  • forced vital capacity (FVC)
  • forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1)
  • FEV1/FVC ratio
