Froin's syndrome

Froin's syndrome occurs when lumbar puncture reveals:

  • CSF with a high protein content
  • xanthochromia but normal cell count

Foin's syndrome is a sign of blockage of CSF flow in the spine. The commonest causes are:

  • advanced spinal tumour
  • spinal meningitis
