The safest and simplest method of lengthening the shorter leg is to use a raised shoe. However, this is often unsatisfactory since the underlying abnormality persists and the shoe may be uncomfortable, impractical and cosmetically unappealing. Surgical intervention may provide a more acceptable result.

The case for correction of short stature is controversial. Such individuals may often suffer socially, economically and psychologically from their lack of height. However, the correction may occur over a period of some years and this should be explained to any potential recipient. Digital projections of their final appearance should be offered to ensure that an informed decision can be taken.
